TikTok Ad Library: How to Search Any Brand's Ads

TikTok's ad library is really two free tools: the Commercial Content Library at library.tiktok.com, where you can search any brand's ads by advertiser name, and Creative Center Top Ads, where TikTok shows high-performing ads with metrics like CTR and view rates. The catch is that the brand search only covers ads shown in Europe, and Top Ads shows you what TikTok picks, not a full list for any one competitor.

I use both every week, and they answer different questions. If you are weighing paid tools instead, we covered those separately in TikTok ad spy tools. This post is about the free, official options only.

What is the TikTok Commercial Content Library?

The Commercial Content Library is TikTok's public ad transparency archive. It exists because of the EU's Digital Services Act, which requires very large platforms to publish a searchable repository of the ads they show to European users. TikTok launched it in July 2023, and it is the closest thing TikTok has to the Meta Ad Library.

It lives at library.tiktok.com. You do not need a TikTok account to search it, and it works from any country. What changes is the data inside: it covers ads delivered to users in Europe (the EU and European Economic Area, and at the time of writing also the UK and Switzerland). Ads that only ran in the US, India or anywhere else will not appear.

For each ad, the library typically shows:

  • The ad creative itself, playable in the browser
  • The advertiser name and the entity that paid for the ad
  • The advertiser's registered location
  • First shown and last shown dates
  • An estimated number of unique users who saw it, overall and by country
  • The countries where it ran
  • A targeting summary, such as age range, gender and location

That targeting summary is more than Meta shows for most commercial ads outside the EU, and it is the most useful field in the whole library. It tells you who a brand is actually paying to reach, not who they say their customer is.

How do you search the Commercial Content Library?

  1. 1
Open library.tiktok.comNo login. Choose the ad library section.
  2. 2
Pick a target countryChoose one European market, or all available ones. Your competitor must have advertised there.
  3. 3
Search by advertiser or keywordAdvertiser name finds a brand. A keyword finds ads mentioning a product or offer.
  4. 4
Set the date rangeWiden it to see what ran last quarter, not just this week.
  5. 5
Sort and open adsSort by audience size or last shown date, then open each ad for its reach and targeting.
Five steps from a brand name to its full European TikTok ad history.

A few things I have learned the hard way:

Search the legal name if the brand name fails. Like most transparency tools, the library lists the verified advertiser, which can be a parent company or a regional subsidiary. If "BrandName" returns nothing, try "BrandName Ltd" or the company behind it.

Sort by audience size first. The ads with the largest estimated reach are the ones the brand put real money behind.

Check last shown dates. An ad with a first shown date three months ago and a last shown date of yesterday has survived a lot of testing. That longevity is the best performance signal the library gives you, because it shows no spend or conversion data.

Use keyword search for category research. Searching a product type instead of a brand surfaces advertisers you did not know about.

What is TikTok Creative Center Top Ads?

Creative Center is TikTok's inspiration hub for advertisers, and Top Ads is the section that matters for creative research. It shows high-performing auction ads that TikTok has chosen to feature, with performance context that no transparency library gives you.

You find it under Creative Center at ads.tiktok.com/business/creativecenter. You can browse some of it without logging in, but at the time of writing the full details for each ad sit behind a free TikTok for Business login.

The filters let you narrow by:

  • Region
  • Industry, from beauty and apparel to financial services and apps
  • Campaign objective, such as traffic, conversions, app installs, video views or lead generation
  • Ad format and ad language
  • Likes threshold
  • Time period

Sort options include TikTok's "For You" ranking, reach and CTR, plus others that, at the time of writing, include 2-second view rate, 6-second view rate, conversion rate and likes. Open an ad and you often get a breakdown of how viewers behaved second by second.

The 6-second view rate is the metric I sort by most. It is the closest thing TikTok publishes to a hook score: how many people kept watching past the opening. A high 6-second view rate on an ad in your category tells you which openings are holding attention right now.

When a client asks "what is our competitor running on TikTok?", I go to the Commercial Content Library. When they ask "what kind of TikTok ad works in our category?", I go to Top Ads.

How do you see TikTok ads of competitors outside Europe?

If a competitor only advertises in the US, neither TikTok tool will show their full ad set. A few routes still work.

Check whether they also sell in Europe. Many US brands ship to the UK or EU and run the same creative there. Search them in the Commercial Content Library anyway. You will often find the exact ads they run at home.

Look at their TikTok profile. Spark Ads promote existing organic posts, so a brand's best ads frequently live on their profile as normal videos.

Check the Meta Ad Library. Brands that make vertical video for TikTok almost always run it on Instagram Reels and Facebook too. Meta's library shows every active ad from any advertiser worldwide, with a start date, which makes it the fastest free way to see a brand's short-form creative when TikTok's own tools come up empty.

Use a paid tool. If you need any-brand, any-country TikTok search with history, that is what paid TikTok spy tools are for. Our TikTok ad spy tools post compares them fairly.

What are the limits of the TikTok ad library?

Be clear on these before you build a process around it:

  • Europe only for brand search. No US, Asia or Latin America data in the Commercial Content Library.
  • No spend. Reach is an estimate, and there are no spend figures for commercial ads.
  • Top Ads is curated. You see what TikTok features, filtered by its own criteria. You cannot pull a full list for one advertiser.
  • No interest targeting. The targeting summary covers basics like age, gender and location. Interest and behavioural targeting are not shown.
  • No download button. Neither tool lets you save the video file. You screenshot, screen record or save links.
  • Ads age out. Under the DSA, platforms only have to keep ads for a limited period after they stop running (one year), so old campaigns disappear.

How does the TikTok ad library compare to the Meta Ad Library?

Meta's library is the more complete of the two for competitor research, and it is not close.

TikTok (Commercial Content Library)Meta Ad Library
CoverageAds shown in EuropeEvery active ad, worldwide
Search by advertiserYesYes
Start date per adYes (first shown)Yes ("Started running on")
ReachEstimated unique usersEU ads only
TargetingAge, gender, location summaryEU ads only, limited
Inactive adsYes, within retentionEU and political ads

The practical difference: on Meta you can look up any brand in any country and see everything they are running today. On TikTok you can do that only if they advertise in Europe. TikTok's edge is Creative Center's performance metrics, which Meta does not publish for normal ads. For the EU-versus-rest-of-world split on Meta's side, see Facebook Ad Library EU vs US, and for the full tour, our Meta Ad Library guide.

Other platforms follow the same pattern. Pinterest's version is EU-focused too, covered in our Pinterest ads library guide, while LinkedIn's is global (see LinkedIn Ad Library).

How do I save what I find?

For TikTok, I keep a simple sheet: advertiser, link, first and last shown dates, estimated reach, targeting and a one-line note on the hook. I revisit it monthly.

For the Meta side of the same competitors, saving is easier. Our free extension, Klipio's Meta Ad Library Downloader, adds a download button to every ad in the Meta Ad Library and can bulk-export a whole brand into one ZIP with a searchable swipe board and a CSV of every ad (disclosure: Klipio is ours; it is free, needs no account and runs in your browser). Because TikTok creative so often shows up on Reels, that export usually covers a good share of a brand's TikTok videos too. The full workflow is in downloading Facebook Ad Library videos.

Whatever you save, copy the angle, not the asset. Study the hook, the structure and the offer, then make your own version. Re-uploading another brand's video raises copyright and trademark problems. This is not legal advice.

FAQ

Does TikTok have an ad library?

Yes, two. The Commercial Content Library at library.tiktok.com lets you search ads shown in Europe by advertiser or keyword, with dates, estimated reach and a targeting summary. Creative Center Top Ads shows high-performing ads with metrics like CTR and view rates, filtered by region, industry and objective.

Can I see a competitor's TikTok ads in the US?

Not completely with TikTok's free tools. The Commercial Content Library only covers ads shown in Europe, and Top Ads only shows ads TikTok chooses to feature. Check whether the brand also advertises in Europe, look at their profile for Spark Ads, and check the Meta Ad Library, where the same videos often run.

Do I need a TikTok account to use the ad library?

No account is needed for the Commercial Content Library. Creative Center Top Ads can be browsed partly without one, but at the time of writing the full ad details and metrics need a free TikTok for Business login.

What metrics does TikTok Creative Center Top Ads show?

At the time of writing you can sort and view ads by reach, CTR, 2-second and 6-second view rates, conversion rate and likes. Many ads also show a second-by-second view of how viewers behaved. There is no spend data.

Can I download videos from the TikTok ad library?

Neither the Commercial Content Library nor Creative Center has a download button for competitor ads. Most marketers save links, screenshots or screen recordings for research. If you study them, copy the angle and not the asset, since reusing someone else's video in your own ads is a legal risk (not legal advice).
