What Is the Facebook Creative Library?

The Facebook creative library is not one product. Three separate tools inside Meta get called by that name, and they do completely different jobs: the asset library in Meta Business Suite stores files you have uploaded, Creative Hub builds mockups, and the public Ad Library shows live ads from every advertiser.
Picking the wrong one wastes an afternoon, so here is what each holds, what it cannot do, and which one you actually want.
Does Facebook have a creative library?
It has three things people call one. None of them is a complete archive of the ads you have run.
| Tool | What it holds | Shows other brands? |
|---|---|---|
| Asset library (Business Suite) | Images and videos you uploaded | No |
| Creative Hub | Mockups and previews you built | No |
| Ad Library (public) | Every currently active ad, anywhere | Yes |
The one most people mean when they search is the public Ad Library, because they are looking for competitors' creative rather than their own files. The other two only ever show your own account.
Where are my own Facebook ad creatives stored?
In the asset library inside Meta Business Suite, under the business account that owns the ad account.
Every image and video you have ever uploaded to an ad lands there. You can filter by type, search by file name, and reuse a file in a new ad without re-uploading it. It is genuinely useful for the boring part of the job: finding the version of a hero image that a client approved four months ago.
What it will not do:
- Show you the ad the asset was used in, or how that ad performed.
- Keep any of the copy — headlines, primary text, and descriptions live with the ad, not the asset.
- Survive an ad account being removed from the business portfolio.
That last one catches agencies out. Assets belong to the business, not to you, and when a client pulls their ad account the library goes with it.
What is Meta Creative Hub for?
Building and previewing ad mockups before anything goes live. It is a design and review tool, not storage.
Creative Hub lets you compose an ad — image or video, primary text, headline, CTA — and see it rendered as it would appear in the feed, in Stories, in Reels. You can share a preview link with a client or a colleague for sign-off without creating a draft campaign.
That preview step is the real value. A headline that reads fine in a spreadsheet gets truncated in the feed, and Creative Hub shows you the truncation before a client does. The mechanics of that workflow are in how to make a Facebook ad mockup.
What Creative Hub is not: a record of what you have run. Mockups sit in their own space, unconnected to your live campaigns, and nothing flows from Ads Manager back into it.
Can I see other brands' creative anywhere in Meta?
Yes, in the public Ad Library, and it is the only route Meta offers.
The Ad Library lists every ad currently running from any advertiser worldwide, free, with no account needed. Search a brand name, pick a country, and you get their live creative with a "Started running on" date on each card.
The start date is the part worth learning to read. Advertisers keep paying only for ads that make money, so an ad still running after two or three months has survived real testing. That signal is the closest thing the library gives you to performance data, and it is explained in full in Facebook ad longevity.
For the complete tour of filters, formats, and regional differences, the Meta Ad Library guide covers the whole tool.
Why does none of this keep a permanent record?
Because all three are built around what is live now, not what happened.
The asset library keeps files but loses the context. Creative Hub keeps mockups but never sees production. The Ad Library keeps nothing at all — the moment an advertiser pauses an ad, the card disappears and there is no history view, no cache, and no way to get it back. The reasons for that are in why ads disappear from the Ad Library.
So the practical answer is that if you want an archive, you build it yourself. That means pulling the ad, the copy, and the date at the point you find them, into somewhere you control.
Our free Meta Ad Library Downloader does that from inside the library: a download button on every ad, a bulk mode that packs a whole search into one ZIP, and a searchable index plus a CSV of every ad's text in each export. It is free, needs no account, and runs in your own browser.
Which one should you actually open?
It depends on which of three jobs you are doing.
A working setup for most media buyers uses all three in sequence: research live competitor creative in the Ad Library, mock up your version in Creative Hub, then keep the approved files in the asset library once it ships. The research end of that loop is covered in the ad creative research workflow.
The one habit worth adding is exporting anything you find interesting the same day you find it. Creative you saw last week and meant to come back to is often gone, and there is no version of the Facebook creative library that will bring it back.
FAQ
Does Facebook have a creative library?
It has three tools that get called that: the asset library in Meta Business Suite for your uploaded files, Creative Hub for mockups and previews, and the public Ad Library for live ads from any advertiser. They are separate products with separate purposes.
Where are my Facebook ad creatives stored?
In the asset library inside Meta Business Suite, under the business that owns the ad account. It keeps the image and video files but not the ad copy or performance data, and access ends if the ad account leaves your business portfolio.
What is Meta Creative Hub used for?
Building ad mockups and previewing how they render across feed, Stories, and Reels before the ad goes live. It is useful for client sign-off and for catching truncated headlines, but it does not store a record of campaigns you have run.
Can I see other brands' creative in the Facebook creative library?
Only in the public Ad Library at facebook.com/ads/library. It shows every active ad from any advertiser worldwide, free and without an account, but it hides spend, reach, and engagement for normal commercial ads.
How do I save Facebook ad creative permanently?
Export it at the moment you find it, because the Ad Library deletes nothing gracefully — paused ads simply vanish. Download the video or image along with the ad copy and start date into a swipe file you control rather than relying on the platform.
The Klipio extension adds a download button to every ad in the Meta Ad Library: one click per ad, or bulk-save a whole search as a ZIP with a searchable swipe file inside. Free, no sign-up.
