Why Can't I Find a Brand in the Meta Ad Library?

If you can't find a brand in the Meta Ad Library, the usual reason is that it isn't running any ads right now, or it runs them from a Page with a different name. The next most common causes are a country filter set to the wrong market and a search typed as a keyword instead of picked as an advertiser.

Almost every "no results" case comes down to one of seven causes. Here is how to tell which one you have and how to fix it in a couple of minutes.

Why can't I find a brand in the Meta Ad Library when I know it advertises?

Start with the boring explanation, because it is right most of the time.

Outside the EU, the Meta Ad Library only shows commercial ads while they are active. When a brand pauses or ends a campaign, those ads drop out of view. A brand that ran heavy ads in the festive season can show nothing in a quiet month.

So "I know they advertise" often means "they advertised recently". The Library is a live window, not an archive, for normal commercial ads.

There are two exceptions. Ads that reach people in the EU stay visible as inactive ads with some extra detail, and political or social-issue ads stay in the Library with disclosure such as spend ranges. Our explainer on active vs inactive ads in the Meta Ad Library covers those rules in full.

Is the brand advertising under a different Page name?

This is the second big one, and it catches experienced buyers too.

The Ad Library is organised by the Facebook Page that runs the ad, not by the brand's trading name. Brands often run ads from:

  • A regional or country Page, such as a separate Page for one market.
  • A parent company Page, where several brands sit under one corporate name.
  • An old Page name, if the brand rebranded but kept its original Page.
  • A creator or influencer Page, where the brand runs ads through a creator's identity. These are often called whitelisted or partnership ads.
  • A product Page, set up for one hero product instead of the whole brand.

If the brand name returns nothing, open one of its ads on Facebook or Instagram and look at the name shown above the ad. That is the Page you need to search for.

Creator-run ads are easy to miss because the brand name may only appear in the copy or a "paid partnership" label. Our guide to spotting whitelisted creator ads shows how to trace them back.

Is your country filter hiding the ads?

The country dropdown sits at the start of every search, and it is easy to forget.

The Library shows ads that delivered to people in the country you pick. If a brand only targets the United States and your filter is set to the United Kingdom, you see nothing, even though the brand is spending every day.

Fix it in one of two ways:

  1. Set the country to All, then search again.
  2. Set the country to the market the brand actually sells in.

Watch for the reverse problem as well. A global brand may run different ads in each market, so a search set to one country shows only that country's slice.

Are you searching by keyword instead of by advertiser?

The search box does two different jobs, and the difference matters.

When you type a name, the Library offers a dropdown of matching Pages as you type. Picking a Page from that list shows ads run by that Page. Pressing Enter without picking a Page runs a keyword search across ad text instead.

A keyword search only finds ads that contain your words in the copy. Plenty of brands never write their own name in their ads, so a keyword search for the brand can come back thin or empty.

Keyword search is also strict about spelling. It does not handle typos, spacing, or punctuation the way a normal search engine would. "Green Leaf", "Greenleaf" and "greenleaf.com" can return different results. For more on quirks like these, read our guide to Facebook Ad Library search.

Is the ad category filter set to political ads only?

Next to the country filter sits an ad category choice. The two options you will usually see are All ads and Issues, elections or politics.

If it is set to the political category, you only see ads that were declared as political or social-issue ads. A skincare or apparel brand will almost never show up there.

Set the category to All ads before you search for any commercial brand. It sounds obvious, but the setting can stick from a previous session or a shared link.

Did the brand only just start advertising?

New ads go through Meta's review before they deliver. An ad that is still in review, or that only started minutes ago, may not appear yet.

In practice, if a brand launched a campaign today, give it a little time and search again later. If it still doesn't show after a day or so, the cause is almost certainly one of the others above.

A related trap: a brand may have a single ad running that the Library shows under its Page, but your other filters, such as platform, media type or language, are narrowing it away. Clear every extra filter before you decide a brand has nothing live.

What is the quickest way to diagnose the problem?

Use this table. Match your symptom, then apply the fix.

SymptomLikely causeFix
No results for the brand name at allBrand has no active ads right nowSearch again in a few weeks, or check EU results if they sell there
Brand name appears in ads but not as an advertiserAds run from a creator or partner PageSearch the creator's Page, or keyword search the brand name
You saw their ad on Instagram but can't find itDifferent Page name, or regional PageNote the name above the ad and search that exact Page
Results look thin for a big brandCountry filter set to one marketSet country to All, then narrow down
Only political ads appearCategory set to Issues, elections or politicsSwitch category to All ads
Keyword search finds only a few adsBrand rarely writes its name in copyPick the Page from the dropdown instead
Spelling variants give different resultsStrict matching in keyword searchTry spaced, joined and domain versions
A new campaign is missingAds still in review or very recentCheck again later

And the order to work through it:

steps
Set country to All :: Rules out the wrong market
Set category to All ads :: Rules out the political filter
Pick the Page from suggestions :: Searches the advertiser, not ad text
Check the Page name on a live ad :: Catches regional and creator Pages
Accept no active ads :: Search again in a few weeks
A five-step check that solves most missing-brand searches in the Meta Ad Library.

How do you keep track of a brand once you find it?

Once you find the right Page, save the URL of that advertiser view. The Page ID in the link stays the same even if the brand renames its Page, so it is the most reliable way back.

Then plan for the Library's biggest weakness: ads disappear once they are paused, and there is no download button. If a competitor's ads matter to you, keep copies while they are live.

Our free extension, the Meta Ad Library Downloader, adds a Download button to each ad in the Library and can collect a whole search into one ZIP with a searchable swipe board. Screenshots and notes work too, if you only need a few ads.

FAQ

Why does the Meta Ad Library say no results for a brand?

Usually the brand has no active ads in the country you picked, or it runs ads from a Page with a different name. Set the country to All, set the category to All ads, and pick the Page from the suggestions list. If it still shows nothing, the brand probably isn't advertising right now.

Does the Meta Ad Library show ads from every country?

Yes, it covers ads from advertisers worldwide, but it filters by the country where each ad was delivered. Setting the filter to All shows the widest view. Outside the EU, commercial ads only appear while they are active.

Can a brand run ads under a different Page name?

Yes. Brands often advertise from regional Pages, parent company Pages, product Pages, or through creators' Pages in partnership ads. The name shown above the ad on Facebook or Instagram tells you which Page to search.

Why can I see a brand's ad on Facebook but not in the Ad Library?

The ad was most likely run by a different Page from the one you searched, or your country filter excludes the market where it was shown to you. Search for the exact name shown above the ad, with the country set to All.

How do I find a brand's ads if I only know the website?

Visit the website and look for the Facebook or Instagram link, usually in the footer. That link leads to the official Page, and its name is what you search in the Library. You can also keyword search the domain, which finds ads that mention it in their text.
