Klipio Ad Downloader: Every Feature, Explained

The Klipio ad downloader is a free Chrome extension that adds a Download button to every ad inside the Meta Ad Library, so you can save a competitor's video, image, or full carousel in one click instead of hunting for it in devtools. It also has a bulk mode that grabs an entire search into one organized ZIP.

This post walks through every feature, what each one is actually for, and where the tool's limits are. No spin, just what it does.

What is the Klipio ad downloader?

It's a browser extension that runs on facebook.com/ads/library, the public Meta Ad Library where anyone can see any brand's active ads. Meta's library has no download option built in, so the extension adds one directly to each ad card.

Install it once and every ad you open in the library — yours or a competitor's — gets a Download button next to it. That's the whole idea: turn ad research from a copy-paste ritual into one click per ad.

It's not affiliated with Meta. It's a third-party tool that reads the same page your browser already loads, the same way any browser extension reads a page.

How does downloading actually work?

Two modes cover almost everything you'd need from a facebook ad video downloader.

Single-ad downloads. Click Download on any ad card. Video ads save in original HD with no watermark. Image ads save as images. Carousel ads save full carousels — every card in the set, not just the first one you happen to see.

Bulk downloads. Run a search in the Ad Library (a brand name, a keyword, whatever you'd normally search), then click Find all ads. It scrolls the entire results page, collects every ad that's currently running, and packs the lot into one ZIP. You choose Videos, Images, or Everything before it starts, and duplicate ads are collapsed automatically so you don't end up with the same creative saved five times. If you want the full walkthrough of this mode, we covered it separately: how to bulk-download every ad from a Meta Ad Library search.

What's inside every export?

Every download, single ad or bulk ZIP, comes with two extras that most download tools skip.

A searchable swipe board. Each export includes an index.html file you open in any browser, no install required. It lets you search the saved ads by hook, CTA, or advertiser name, play the videos, copy the ad text, and jump back to the original ad in the Ad Library.

A CSV. Every ad in the export gets a row, so you can drop it into a spreadsheet, sort by advertiser, or hand it to a teammate who doesn't want to open the swipe board at all.

Files are named by advertiser and date, so a folder with 300 ads in it still reads clearly instead of turning into a pile of video_1.mp4, video_2.mp4.

Is it actually free and private?

Yes, and this is where a lot of tools quietly aren't.

The extension is 100% free. No account, no sign-up, no watermark on anything you download, no daily cap. Everything runs in your own browser on your own connection — nothing you download passes through Klipio's servers, because there's no server in the loop at all. It's just your browser reading a page and saving files, the way a screenshot tool works.

The extension also ships in 31 languages, so the interface isn't English-only depending on your Chrome locale. Current version is 1.2.31 (August 2026), sitting at 5.0 stars.

How do I install the Klipio ad downloader?

  1. Go to klipio.io/meta-ad-library-downloader and add it to Chrome. No account, no sign-up.
  2. Open facebook.com/ads/library and search a brand or keyword like you normally would.
  3. Every ad card now shows a Download button. Click it for a single ad.
  4. For a whole search, click Find all ads, pick Videos, Images, or Everything, and let it run.
  5. Open the ZIP. The swipe board (index.html) and CSV are inside, alongside the media files.

That's the entire setup. There's no dashboard to configure and nothing to connect before you can start downloading.

Who is this tool actually for?

Anyone who studies Meta ads for a living or a side hustle:

  • Media buyers and performance marketers pulling competitor creative before a new sprint, instead of manually screen-recording each one.
  • Creative and design teams building swipe files of hooks and formats that are still running weeks later.
  • Agencies who need a fast, free way to hand a client's account manager a folder of the category's current ads.
  • Solo founders and DTC brands doing their own competitive research without paying for a $50+/month tool just to see what's working.

If you only ever need one or two videos a month, a simpler facebook ad library video downloader method like the devtools trick works fine too. The extension earns its keep once you're pulling more than a handful of ads regularly.

Klipio vs. the paid spy tools

Klipio's downloader isn't trying to replace a full spy-tool database. It's a faster way to do the download part. Here's how it stacks up on that specific job, priced as of August 2026:

ToolPriceDownload buttonFull carouselsBulk ZIPSwipe board + CSV
Klipio (free extension)FreeYesYesYesYes, included
AdSpy$149/mo, no trialYesPartialNoNo
ForeplayFrom $59/mo ($49 annual)YesYesLimitedTeam boards
MineaFrom $49/moYesPartialNoNo
DropispyFree tier, paid from $29.90YesPartialNoNo

To be fair to the paid tools: you're not paying for the download button. AdSpy's real value is a searchable historical database with engagement estimates that outlive a paused ad. Foreplay is built for team briefing workflows, not just saving files. What does Pro add?

The free download extension covers downloading. Klipio also has an optional Pro dashboard that saves whole brands and lets you access them across devices, useful if you're tracking dozens of competitors and want a permanent library rather than a folder of ZIPs on one laptop. Klipio's paid plans start at $79/month. The download feature itself stays free either way — Pro is an add-on for people who want more than downloads, not a paywall on the tool.

The Ad Library is public by design — Meta built it as a transparency tool anyone can browse without an account. Saving a copy of a public ad for research is standard practice, and every commercial spy tool on the market is built on exactly this. The line most people follow is: study the angle, don't reuse someone else's exact creative as your own ad. This is general practice, not legal advice, so check with a lawyer if you're doing anything beyond personal research.

FAQ

Is Klipio's ad downloader free?

Yes. The extension itself, single-ad downloads, bulk ZIPs, the swipe board, and the CSV are all free with no account and no sign-up. The only paid layer is an optional Pro dashboard for saving brands across devices.

Does Klipio work on Instagram ads too?

It works inside facebook.com/ads/library, which is Meta's single public library covering both Facebook and Instagram placements — any ad shown there, regardless of which app it runs on, can be downloaded the same way.

Can it download full carousels, not just the first image?

Yes. Carousel ads download as the complete set, every card, not just the first one visible on the page. That's one of the gaps in the devtools and screen-recording workarounds, which usually only capture what's on screen.

Does Klipio see or store what I download?

No. The extension runs entirely in your browser and downloads go straight to your computer. Nothing passes through Klipio's servers, because there's no server involved in the download itself.

How is this different from a facebook ad library downloader website?

Paste-URL websites handle one ad at a time and several add a watermark or cap resolution unless you pay. The extension works inside the library itself, handles a whole search in one bulk pass, and never watermarks anything, because it's free by design rather than free with upsells.

Is Klipio affiliated with Meta?

No. It's an independent third-party Chrome extension, not affiliated with or endorsed by Meta. It reads the same public page your browser already loads at facebook.com/ads/library.
