Beauty Facebook Ads: Makeup, Hair, Fragrance

Beauty Facebook ads that keep running show application and wear, not a finished campaign still. The live examples in the Meta Ad Library make that obvious: long-running makeup, hair, and fragrance creatives are close-up how-tos, not beauty-editorial posters.
This is a swipe-file guide for color, hair, and scent. Skincare routines live in a different post on purpose.
What do long-running beauty Facebook ads look like?
Five patterns cover most of what stays live.
1. The application close-up. Brush, doe-foot, wand, or hands in frame. The product going on, then a cut to wear in daylight. Makeup especially dies in the feed when you only show the after.
2. The hair transformation as process, not miracle. Wash, apply, dry, finish. The long-runners show time and technique. They do not claim a new texture overnight. For the adjacent routine category, use skincare Facebook ad examples and keep this file on hair, color, and scent.
3. The shade or finish matcher. "This is a cool olive in office light." Carousel of undertones, or a creator naming their shade and the lighting. Fragrance equivalent: "this is a skin scent, not a room-filler."
4. The UGC get-ready. Phone in a bathroom, real lighting, captions. The format notes in how to find UGC ad examples apply directly. Beauty is one of the densest UGC categories in the library.
5. The wear test. Seven hours later, gym, commute, mask, humidity. Proof of claim without describing the viewer's face as a problem.
| Format | Sub-niche | What to steal |
|---|---|---|
| Application close-up | Makeup | Brush path and first-line finish word |
| Process hair video | Hair | Step order and tool named on screen |
| Shade or finish matcher | Makeup, hair color | How they name undertone or lighting |
| UGC get-ready | All three | Lighting honesty, not the script |
| Wear test | Makeup, hair, fragrance | The time box they prove |
How do I find beauty Facebook ads in the Ad Library?
Open facebook.com/ads/library. No account needed. Search brand Pages first, then look, finish, and hair-problem phrases.
A useful pass:
- Country on. Shade names, claim language, and launch calendars differ by market.
- Five makeup houses, three hair brands, two fragrance lines you actually compete with.
- Finish and look language, not "beauty". "soft glam oily skin", "glass hair without heat", "vanilla skin scent", "transfer-proof lip".
- Creator names when a face is clearly the system. Some of the longest-running beauty facebook ads are attached to one person.
- Started running on. That date is the winner signal. Spend and engagement are hidden on commercial ads.
The library is free and has no download button. Ads vanish when a launch, a shade, or a creator cut is paused. The political/EU API does not cover cosmetics.
Which beauty ad formats actually keep running?
Application video and wear tests. Editorial stills and "get the look in 7 seconds" claims are the ones that churn.
What you will see a lot of, and should treat as a launch, not a winner:
- Celebrity stills with no application.
- "New me" montage that could belong to any brand in the aisle.
- Unboxing of a PR box. Pretty, and it dies with the PR cycle.
- Before-and-after beauty filters. Fragile under personal-attribute and imagery rules.
- Wall-to-wall shade grids with no lighting named.
What you will see less of, and should study harder:
- A 12-second wand close-up with the finish word in captions.
- A hair ad that names porosity, heat temp, or "on day-three hair".
- A fragrance ad that describes projection and season instead of a lifestyle fantasy.
- A wear test with a timestamp and unflattering light.
Video is the default. The cut patterns worth borrowing sit in Facebook video ad examples. Use that page for hook length and captioning. Use this page for what beauty specifically keeps paying for.
What should I copy from a beauty ad, and what should I leave?
Copy the application structure and the finish word. Leave the face, the footage, and the shade campaign.
Copy:
- The finish word in line one. Dewy, blurred, laminated, skin-scent, lived-in, transfer-proof.
- The lighting they admit to. Bathroom vs daylight vs ring light.
- The "who this is not for" line. "Too sheer if you want full coverage" does more work than a celebrity still.
- How they prove wear. Timestamp, activity, weather.
- The CTA type. Shop shade, find your match, watch the tutorial, set a restock alert.
Do not copy:
- The creator's face, voice, or exact script.
- Pack shots, campaign stills, or other brands' UGC files.
- Medical or quasi-medical claims, lash-growth promises, or "replaces a procedure" angles.
- A competitor's shade names as if they were yours.
Second pass: click the landing page. Long-running beauty facebook ads usually open on the SKU, the shade finder, or the tutorial they just ran. If the ad is a wear test of a lip stain and the page is a full brand story, the click is leaking. Note it in the swipe file.
Name the lighting. Beauty products look like different products in bathroom yellow and in daylight. Ads that last say which one you are looking at.
How do I save a beauty swipe file before ads vanish?
Do not keep a camera-roll of thumbnails. You will lose shade carousels, primary text, and the start date, usually the week a launch ends.
Our free Meta Ad Library Downloader adds a Download button on facebook.com/ads/library. HD video, images, full carousels. Bulk ZIP plus a searchable index.html swipe board and a CSV. Free, no account, runs in the browser, nothing through Klipio servers. Not affiliated with Meta.
Get it from the Chrome Web Store. Current listing is v1.2.31, 31 languages.
CSV columns that stay useful after the shade drops:
- Brand and sub-niche (makeup, hair, fragrance).
- Format (application, process, matcher, UGC, wear test).
- Finish word and lighting named.
- Start date.
- Whether a shade or variant carousel exists.
Full carousels are the job in color and hair. Card one is the hero. Card five is the undertone grid, the before-heat vs after-heat, or the note pyramid. That card is the swipe.
What searches actually surface useful beauty ads?
Pages, then finish words, then the problem the product is hired for.
Starter list, replace with your aisle:
- Makeup: oily T-zone, hooded eye, transfer, office lighting, mask.
- Hair: frizz on day three, heatless, fine hair, silk press, curly wash day.
- Fragrance: skin scent, office-safe, summer vanilla, "not a cloud".
- Tools: spoolie, diffuser, clean brushes, travel minis.
Keyword search is exact-ish. Try the product nickname and the official name. Try "lip stain" and "lip tint". A hyphen will hide a Page running a perfectly good ad.
Sort by start date. The oldest still-running application videos are the brief. Last week's PR unboxing is a mood board.
Ignore catalogue-only retargeting if you are building a cold-angle file. Those ads assume the person already knows the shade.
The library hides spend, so a celebrity drop can look as loud as a 10-person indie. The date on the card is how you tell a burst from a working ad.
The short version
Beauty Facebook ads that last show the product going on, name a finish, and prove wear. Keep skincare in its own file. Search the Ad Library by brand and by look language, trust the start date, and save the full carousel before the launch ends. Copy the angle. Leave the face.
FAQ
What do good beauty Facebook ads look like?
They show application or process, name a finish, and prove wear in honest lighting. Editorial stills of a finished face are common and usually short-lived as cold ads.
How is this different from skincare ads?
Makeup, hair, and fragrance sell a look, a finish, or a scent. Skincare sells a routine and a skin concern. The formats overlap in UGC style, but the claims, the close-ups, and the policy risks are not the same.
How do I find competitor beauty ads on Facebook?
Use the Meta Ad Library at facebook.com/ads/library. Search the brand Page, then search finish and look phrases. Filter to your country. Read the "Started running on" date.
Can I reuse a competitor's beauty UGC?
No. Study the application structure, the finish word, and the CTA. Do not reuse the creator, the footage, or the pack shot. Copy the angle, not the asset. This is not legal advice.
Are before-and-after beauty ads allowed?
They are a common rejection trigger, especially when they describe the viewer's face or hair as a flaw. A competitor still running one is not proof it will clear for you. Check current Meta standards. This is not legal advice.
Why do beauty ads vanish from the Ad Library?
The library only shows active ads. When a launch, a shade, or a creator cut is paused, the card disappears. There is no native history for commercial ads, so save the search while it is live.
The Klipio extension adds a download button to every ad in the Meta Ad Library: one click per ad, or bulk-save a whole search as a ZIP with a searchable swipe file inside. Free, no sign-up.
