App Facebook Ads Examples From the Ad Library

App Facebook ads that keep running show one job in the first two seconds, then send the tap to the store. The live examples in the Meta Ad Library make that obvious: long-running install creatives are vertical, captioned, and built around a single action the app is hired for, not a brand film.

This is a swipe-file of install creative from the library. It is not a course on campaign setup, SKAN, or bid types.

What do long-running app Facebook ads look like?

Five patterns cover most of what stays live.

1. The job-in-two-seconds UGC. A person on a phone, naming the job, then showing the first action. "I log what I eat in 20 seconds." Vertical. Captions on. This is the default UA cut.

2. The screen recording. Thumb moving through one task. Not a feature tour. One job, start to finish. The video craft notes in Facebook video ad examples apply, with tighter hooks than most DTC.

3. The before-phone mess. A notebook, a group chat, a camera roll of 400 screenshots. Then the same job inside the app. Static can work if the mess is ugly enough.

4. The playable-style loop. A repeating 6-10 second interaction that feels like using the app. Common in games and utilities. Format vocabulary sits in Facebook ad formats. The library shows you the live cut, not the playable file itself.

5. The social-proof stack. Store rating, one named review, one specific job. Weak as a cold opener if that is all it is. Strong as a follow-up after the job ad.

How do I find app Facebook ads in the Ad Library?

Open facebook.com/ads/library. No account needed. Search the app's Page first, then the job phrase.

A useful pass:

  • Country on. Store screenshots, privacy lines, and UA creative differ by market.
  • The five apps you actually lose installs to, plus two in the tier above you.
  • Job language, not "app". "habit tracker morning", "split a bill", "language 10 minutes", "scan a receipt".
  • Filter to video. Most install creative that lasts is vertical video.
  • Started running on. That date is the winner signal. Spend and engagement are hidden on commercial ads.
steps
Open Ad Library :: facebook.com/ads/library, country on
Search app Pages :: Five rivals, two aspirational
Search the job :: Buyer language, not "app"
Filter to video :: Most install winners are vertical
Save 9:16 plus copy :: Hook lives in captions
An app-install Ad Library pass from search to saved swipe file.

The library is free and has no download button. Ads vanish when a UA test is paused. The political/EU API does not cover commercial app ads. You will see Facebook and Instagram placements. You will not see a spend number.

Which app ad formats actually keep running?

Vertical job UGC and single-task screen recordings. Brand films and feature tours churn.

What you will see a lot of, and should treat as a test:

  • Founder origin stories with no first action.
  • Montage of every tab in the app.
  • Ranking claims with no store context.
  • End-card only, no hook.
  • Horizontal cuts recut badly into 9:16.

What you will see less of, and should study harder:

  • A 8-second UGC that names the job and shows the first tap.
  • A screen recording that starts mid-task, not on the splash screen.
  • A static of the ugly workaround plus a store CTA.
  • A loop that is the core mechanic, not a trailer.

App facebook ads that last are repetitive on purpose. The same hook runs for months because the job did not change. Boredom in the UA Slack is not a KPI.

The wider pattern set is in Facebook ad examples. Use that for card anatomy. Use this page for what install creative actually keeps paying for.

What should I copy from an app ad, and what should I leave?

Copy the job hook and the first-action proof. Leave the footage, the UI you do not own, and the reviews.

Copy:

  • The job in the first two seconds, in user English.
  • Which first action they demo. Log, scan, match, send, start a streak.
  • Caption style. Almost every long-runner is readable with the sound off.
  • The CTA type. Install, download, get, learn more. Look at what the survivors picked.
  • The "not for" qualifier. "Not a full accounting suite" saves bad reviews.

Do not copy:

  • Another app's UI recordings, faces, or store reviews.
  • Their exact script or on-screen text.
  • Ranking claims you cannot put on your own store listing.
  • A competitor's "Started running on" date as if it were your CPI.

Second pass: tap through if the destination is a site rather than the store. Long-running app facebook ads usually send cold traffic to the store or to a page that repeats the same job. If the ad is "scan a receipt in 10 seconds" and the page is a company blog, the tap is leaking. Note it.

Captions are not optional. Install ads run in Stories and Reels with the sound off. If the hook only exists in voiceover, you do not have a hook.

How do I save an app swipe file before ads vanish?

Do not screen-record five ads into a camera roll. You will lose captions, primary text, carousel cards, and the start date.

Our free Meta Ad Library Downloader adds a Download button on facebook.com/ads/library. HD video, images, full carousels. Bulk ZIP plus a searchable index.html swipe board and a CSV. Free, no account, runs in the browser, nothing through Klipio servers. Not affiliated with Meta.

Install it from the Chrome Web Store. Current listing is v1.2.31, 31 languages.

CSV columns that stay useful after a UA refresh:

  • App and the job you searched.
  • Format (UGC, screen recording, mess, loop, proof).
  • Aspect ratio if you can see it.
  • Start date.
  • CTA.

Save the 9:16 file, not a cropped desktop preview. The hook timing is different in vertical, and a 1:1 recut is not the ad.

What searches actually surface useful app ads?

Pages, then jobs, then the workaround the app replaces.

Starter list, replace with your category:

  • The first action. Track, scan, split, streak, match, remind.
  • The ugly workaround. Spreadsheet, group chat, camera roll, notebook.
  • Time box. "10 minutes a day", "before bed", "on the commute".
  • The role plus the job if it is a B2B-ish utility.

Keyword search is exact-ish. Try the store name and the nickname. Try "to-do" and "todo". A hyphen will hide a Page running a perfectly good ad.

Sort by start date. The oldest still-running job cuts are the brief. This week's five new hooks are the test matrix.

Ignore ads that only retarget app users or site visitors if you are building a cold-install file. Those ads assume the person already has the app.

The library hides spend, so a giant UA burst can look as loud as a 12-person studio running a winner for nine months. The date on the card is the filter.

The short version

App Facebook ads that last name one job in two seconds, show the first action, and send the tap to the store. Search the Ad Library by app Page and by user language, trust the start date, and save the vertical file before the test is killed. Copy the angle. Leave the asset.

FAQ

What do good app Facebook ads look like?

They are vertical, captioned, and built around one job and one first action. Feature tours and brand films rarely last as cold install ads.

How do I find competitor app install ads on Facebook?

Use the Meta Ad Library at facebook.com/ads/library. Search the app's Page, then search the job phrase. Filter to your country and to video. Read the "Started running on" date.

Should app ads show the UI or a person?

The long-runners do both, often in the same cut: a person names the job, then a screen recording shows the first tap. UI-only tours without a job hook tend to be short-lived.

Can I reuse a competitor's app video?

No. Study the job hook, the first action, and the CTA. Do not reuse footage, UI, or reviews. Copy the angle, not the asset. This is not legal advice.

Do app ads have to send people to the store?

Look at what the long-runners in your category do. Most cold install creative goes to the store. Some send to a site first. The library will show you which destination the survivors picked.

Why do app ads vanish from the Ad Library?

The library only shows active ads. When a UA test is paused, the card disappears. There is no native history for commercial ads, so save the search while it is live.
